The shading is up to you, the marks you leave are your legacy so what are you going to do with it? We don’t need to beartists to create a work of art. We don’t need to label ourselves creative in order to pick up the paintbrush. We just need to wake up and realise that every day when the sun comes up, we get another blank canvas to play with and another shot at making life epic.
Unlike many creatives I know, I can’t claim to have come from an unsupportive family. Thankfully, that does not form part of my story at all: quite the opposite in fact. My parents were always encouraging when it came to my creativity and looking back, my future path was set from a very young age. I do remember short stints of wanting to be a paramedic, (having engrossed myself in episodes of Saturday night TV drama ‘Casualty’) and also an archeologist, thanks to a fossil project that piqued my interest at middle school. But with the exception of these 2 ideas, the rest of my childhood and early adulthood believed firmly that my destiny would be a creative one. There really wasn’t any other choice. Where else would I possibly fit when I spent all my free time drawing, colouring, making and creating?
Last week I passed the big 3-0 days of my #100daysofshoemaking which means by now I’m more than a third of the way through. Woah! It should also mean I have more than 30 shoe posts on my Instagram account to sift and scroll through too but do I? Here is my honest account of how the first part of the project has gone, what’s coming up next and some tips for anyone out there embarking on a similar challenge…
I don’t know about you, but the Corona virus quarantine has left me feeling a bit creatively numb. Life is really topsy turvy right now as we all adjust to a new normal and despite a positive attitude and the gratitude I have for my health, I have found it difficult to be creative. As a result, I’ve been looking for ways to incorporate not only creative thinking but stimulate my imagination to help focus on my ultimate goal – a footwear and leather goods brand of my own. This is where the 100 Day Project comes in…
I make no apologies for the terrible pun. This time I am going back to my design roots and discussing footwear, freedom, flexibility and fun. And any other appropriate F word that may spring to mind in the process…
I haven’t managed to write post-baby yet so here goes! I’ve been looking for inspiration for this latest post and have turned to my own experience to try and get my blogging mojo back! I’ve been finding it very tough to focus on my other 2 creative outlets – leather making and social media consultancy – since having my second child and consequently this has left me feeling a bit frazzled and frustrated. Having thought about possible solutions, I decided I’d turn them into a few tips on this week’s blog… Continue reading “How to stay creative after a baby…”
I’ve just finished reading Emma Gannon’s The Multi-Hyphen Method and thought this week I’d publish a quick review. Perhaps some of you are like me and trying to decide between (or juggle several) career options. This is primarily why I picked up the book – that and the insatiable social media hype surrounding its launch, let’s be honest! I hoped it would help me clarify some of the fog surrounding what I should do next and the idea of learning more about someone with a multi-stream income appealed to me. Read on to find out what I thought… Continue reading “EMMA GANNON – ‘THE MULTI-HYPHEN METHOD’ REVIEW”
